Reflection: “The Tale of Buncle Todd” is a silent film that tells the story of the time that I fought for the blanket of my dreams in a Christmas swap with my family. I have always loved the way silent films looked and I have always wanted to create one. I knew from the start that I wanted to use my personal story as one of my remixes, and when I was thinking about how to remix my essay I suddenly had this vision of my neighbor running around in fast motion. Once I had that thought there was no way I was gonna be able to do anything else for my remix. I had to create this silent film! My neighbor Cara, who is three, was super excited to “become a movie star.” Although I was nervous that she was gonna be too young to follow instructions, it ended up being fine, and as I predicted she is extremely cute in the movie. After the first few clips I had finally figured out ways to instruct her without confusing her. When I wanted her to look excited I would tell her to act like she was on a trampoline and when I needed her to look sad I asked her to fall onto the couch. The funniest part of the whole process was that Cara was actually easier to instruct than my brother, my mom, and Cara’s dad. The silent film definitely came with its challenges — especially when editing — but overcoming those challenges was the most exciting part.
